Kai-Uwe Schanz, Principal Partner, Dr. Schanz, Alms & Company, was quoted in a piece on the prospects of the reinsurance marketplace in the city and canton of Zurich, published in the most recent edition of Handelszeitung, a leading Swiss business paper.
The translated quotes:
Switzerland is the worlds fourth largest reinsurance marketplace (after the US, Germany and Bermuda). Taking into account business written by reinsurance branches domiciled in Switzerland (in addition to subsidiaries), Switzerland is likely to be the worlds third largest reinsurance marketplace, says Kai-Uwe Schanz, reinsurance expert and principal partner at Dr. Schanz, Alms & Company.
According to Schanz the prospects are excellent: Thanks to a superior quality of living, talent can be recruited to Switzerland from all over the world. Switzerlands administrative, legal and regulatory infrastructure is considered to be outstanding. And finally, in Switzerland, the role of the government is expected to gain much less importance in the wake of the financial crisis than in the US, Great Britain or Germany. Further, Switzerlands competitive edge in taxation is likely to further strengthen, given the ballooning fiscal deficits in most other OECD countries, says Schanz.
